Syscomax is entrusted with the management of the Residence Plaisance des Îles construction project

General contractor Syscomax has secured its first-ever mandate in the Magdalen Island region. The company will be managing the work on the Residence Plaisance des Îles residential complex for the elderly in Cap-aux-Meules.

The official groundbreaking ceremony was held on June 28 in front of guests of honour. The Board of Directors of the NPO, the Minister Responsible for Seniors and Informal Caregivers, Marguerite Blais, the MP for the Magdalen Islands, Joël Arseneau, and the President of the Maritime Community Islands, Jonathan Lapierre were on hand for the ceremonial event. Sylvain Robitaille (Founder & Special Projects) also took part, representing Syscomax during this important day for the region. The highly anticipated project will meet Madelinots’ pressing need for this type of service that is currently unavailable.

The residence will have two distinct wings. The first wing, with 143 housing units, will meet the needs of independent seniors or those needing basic assistance. The second wing, with 65 units, will be dedicated to elderly people requiring more specialized care. In all, the project will house 208 units.

Responding to a desperate lack of accommodation and health care services for the elderly population of the Magdalen Islands, Syscomax recognizes the project’s importance and is proud to have been chosen for the project. Project management will involve developing plans and establishing costs, coordinating tenders and purchasing equipment and furnishings. It also consists of ensuring the smooth progress of the site’s construction, managing contractors and professionals, and respecting schedules, with a target delivery date of November 2020.

It’s thanks to our solid reputation that we obtained this mandate. It was at the request of a member of the Board that we were approached, since he knew that partnering with Syscomax guarantees the success of a project.
- Sylvain Robitaille, Founder and Special Project Lead of Syscomax

The reconstruction of RCI Environnement Laval is going well

RCI Environnement Laval's recycling and sorting centre burned down in 2018. Following this event, Syscomax became the designated responder to stabilize the undisturbed part of the building and thus ensure worker safety. On the strength of the success of its first intervention, Syscomax was mandated by RCI Environnement to carry out a second mandate. This time, the mandate covers the reconstruction of the part destroyed by the fire, a surface area of 28 000 ft2.

To make the infrastructure coherent, the initial concept for the damaged building is the basis for the new execution plans. However, the consulting engineering firm that worked on the original building and Syscomax ensure that all aspects of the new building are optimized. The use of space as well as the efficiency of the areas will be greatly enhanced.

The team in charge of the mandate at Syscomax also collaborated with the engineering department of RCI Environnement Laval to adapt the reconstruction project to sorting processes for complex recyclable materials. Since this is a building that operates heavy industrial equipment, everything has to be considered: the recycling trucks must be able to access it to unload their cargo, and mechanized loaders must be able to collect the materials before they are sent to a large conveyor for sorting. This specific process, therefore, requires a high access height and a very wide structural range. The concrete walls must also be able to withstand the immense pressure of the loaders. Work is currently underway and will be completed by July 2019.

« The involvement of Syscomax following 2018’s unfortunate event was very professional and efficient. The company carried out a major stabilization operation while ensuring that the un-stricken part remained fully functional, which was a big challenge. When it came time to mandate a general contractor to carry out the reconstruction, it was imperative that Syscomax be our partner of choice.

An important groundbreaking for Imprimerie Continuum

The official groundbreaking ceremony for the Imprimerie Continuum plant was held June 21 in Saint-Jérôme. Along with the project leader and general contractor Syscomax and the plant's employees, Imprimerie Continuum’s President Sylvain Richer, his father Roger Richer, the company's founder, and Nancy Charlebois, its Vice-President, had the honour of kicking off the project.

Founded in 1985, Imprimerie Continuum specializes in digital printing, postal distribution and variable data and data processing to support companies looking to reach out to consumers directly. Since taking over from his father in 2000, Sylvain Richer has enjoyed great success. Nancy Charlebois joined the team in 2013, and together with Sylvain Richer has helped the company reach new heights. To meet the company’s growth head on, a new building that offers more space than the current one was required.

And so, the project to build a plant with a total floor area of about 12,000 square feet was launched. The building will have a steel structure and a concrete foundation. Delivery is set for the end of October 2019.

This moment is of great significance for Imprimerie Continuum, as the company’s new, fully adapted facilities will help meet growing demand better moving forward.

“This groundbreaking is very important for my family and me; it represents the work of a lifetime for my father and for me blossoming before our eyes. I chose Syscomax to carry out the mandate because they have an impressive track record and from our first interactions with the company, they gained my trust.”
